It’s the new moon today, marking the transition from the Chinese Lunar Year of the Water Rabbit in 2023 to the Year of the Wood Dragon in 2024. In reflection, there may have been challenges and lessons of the past year, that can now be released, so that we can look forward to the opportunities and energies of the new year. The Water Rabbit year is characterized by its lessons in flowing with life’s changes, utilizing intuition, taking leaps of faith, and facing fears to move through them. I personally experienced my own struggles, including the loss of my mother, workplace tribulations, and health issues, which called for moments of grief, adaptability, and compassion in facing life’s uncertainties. Something I read in a fantasy novella struck deep, and it has stayed with me for some time. It said, “if some horrible event forces you to become the person you are meant to be – a radiant, bright light in the sea of darkness – that event is actually a gift”.1 I can recollect a number of past hardships, providing clues into my own personal growth and development, those turn-of-events were simply (or rather sometimes abruptly) steering me in another direction, where I can more fully express myself and my soul purpose.
The past year’s challenging energy may have been due to the planet Pluto transitioning from the sign of Capricorn into the sign of Aquarius. Pluto is the planet of transformation and bringing hidden aspects into the light. Capricorn rules long-term goals, structure, and hard work. Pluto’s last hurrah in Capricorn this past year could have stirred a karmic pot of dust out from under the bed for us to reexamine before entering Aquarius. Even if these dust bunnies have come to light and yet feel unresolved, Pluto in Aquarius will strike with “aha” moments and inspirational problem solving at a higher level. At the macro level, Pluto in Aquarius may have a powerful impact in the areas of science and research, space travel, global politics, and environmental innovations that can respond to climate crisis. In the next twenty years (Pluto remains in Aquarius until 2044) we will most certainly see changes in technology that will change our lives much like social media networks and the internet have since the beginning of this century.
As we welcome the Year of the Wood Dragon, the emphasis shifts to embracing the dragon’s majestic, bold, and regenerative energies, which are linked to leadership, visibility, and inspiration. The dragon, being a revered and mythical figure in Chinese astrology, signifies a year where big projects and public recognition can be achieved, encouraging individuals to harness the luck and powerful energy for growth and success. It’s time to shine your light and invest in bigger projects that have positive impact at a greater scale for humanity.

The year 2024 is also associated with the numerology number 8, symbolizing strength, power, courage, and the potential for manifestation after persistent effort. This number’s resemblance to the infinity symbol highlights the infinite possibilities and momentum that can be built, particularly in projects that have been nurtured over the past eight years. The message encourages doubling down on successful endeavors and investing in your passion projects, this year offers additional support for completing long-term projects and reaping rewards.

Using the energy of 8, I am also doubling down on the good stuff this year! This spring, I am offering a workshop that focusses on Feng Shui and your home. The Art of Feng Shui Workshop introduces participants to the five sacred elements of Feng Shui (water, wood, fire, earth, and metal) for home enhancement and harmony. The workshop shows participants how to apply Feng Shui principles for better alignment with the year’s energies and personal development goals. The workshop is being offered Saturday March 9, 2024.
